Celebrating the Week of Sound at the 2026 NewFoS Stakeholder Meeting
As part of the global International Week of Sound, the 2026 NewFoS Stakeholder Meeting featured a special piano and flute concert that highlighted the powerful connection between science, sound, and the arts.
Supported by UNESCO, the International Week of Sound is a worldwide initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of sound in everyday life — from communication and health to education, culture, technology, and environmental sustainability. The celebration promotes interdisciplinary dialogue and encourages greater awareness of how sound shapes human experience and innovation.
The NewFoS community was honored to welcome two distinguished musicians from the University of Arizona School of Music:
- 🎹 Rie Tanaka, Instructor of Piano at the University of Arizona, an accomplished educator with more than 15 years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels in applied piano, group piano, and chamber music.
- 🎼 Brian Luce, Professor of Flute Performance, Associate Director of the School of Music, and a Yamaha Performing Artist whose artistry and leadership continue to enrich musical education and performance.
Their performance created a memorable moment of reflection and inspiration during the stakeholder meeting, demonstrating how sound serves as a bridge across disciplines — connecting music, physics, engineering, and human creativity.
Events like this embody the NewFoS mission of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and celebrating the many ways sound influences science, technology, and society.
We extend our sincere thanks to our performers and stakeholders for joining us in celebrating the science and art of sound.
