Alysha Ramirez Hall
Alysha Ramirez Hall earned her doctorate degree in Family Studies and Human Development with a minor in quantitative methods and applied developmental science at the University of Arizona, completed a National Science Foundation (NSF) Social, Behavioral and Economics (SBE) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of Human Ecology at the University of California, Davis and spent multiple years in the nonprofit sector working closely with community organizations to improve educational outreach programs. Most recently she was a Senior Research Scientist in the Action Lab at EdPlus at Arizona State University developing new insights into the learning science behind students’ learning behavior in a digital world. As a developmental scientist, Dr. Ramirez Hall has centered her work around reducing barriers and enhancing supports for gender and racial minority populations in educational settings. She has served as both a PI and Co-PI on several National Science Foundation grants, most recently an NSF RAPID cycle grant to track college students’ transition to remote learning due to the coronavirus pandemic. This quantitative and qualitative daily diary study collected information on academic and wellbeing outcomes, online discrimination, university belongingness and diversity in the times of both coronavirus and historical social justice movements. Intertwined in all aspects of Dr. Ramirez Hall’s work are the importance of diversity and people of color achieving equity in education, health and the workplace. She believes that diversity of ideas and experiences is key in order for progress at any institution to occur.
