Nicholas Gerbis interviewed Pierre Deymier, Keith Rung and Sara Chavarria. Deymier highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of their research. He discussed the importance of exploring attributes of acoustic waves that have been previously overlooked. Keith Runge, director of knowledge transfer for New Frontiers of Sound (NewFoS), he explained how the unique properties of topologically engineered materials ensure that sound traveling in one direction cannot traverse back in the other; there's no echo. Sara Chavarria NewFoS Co-PI, she highlighted the center's efforts to prioritize higher education, staff, and researcher training, with future plans to extend support to K-12 teachers. Chavarria emphasized the importance of creating inclusive spaces and providing mentorship opportunities to underrepresented students in STEM fields.
