Exploring New Frontiers: Knowledge Transfer Team’s Fieldwork in Alaska.
On June 13th and 14th, our Knowledge Transfer (KT) team—Keith Runge and Araceli Hernandez-Granados—embarked on an exciting journey to Fairbanks, Alaska, where they collaborated with Susan Beck, Bingxu Luo, and David Cavalluzzi from the University of Arizona, along with Elizabeth Whitney and Falk Huettmann from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
This collaboration marked weeks of preparation to deploy seismic sensors in the Murphy Dome area—a site with rich historical significance, once an Air Force station, now a popular spot for both locals and visitors. Special thanks to Falk for navigating the permit process, ensuring our team could successfully complete their fieldwork.
Our teams worked through logistics, shipping equipment from New Mexico, and reviewing safety protocols—prepping specialized gear like hiking boots 🥾, mosquito nets 🦟, bear spray 🐻, and whistles. As the team ventured into the forest, they carried the materials needed for the sensor deployment 🔩🧰, setting the stage for a deeper understanding of the region's seismic activity (stay tuned for our upcoming YouTube video detailing the entire project!).
In addition to the hands-on work, we held interviews with Falk and Elizabeth to reflect on our progress and discuss future goals for this exciting partnership 🎙️.
A big shout-out to everyone involved for their dedication and efforts in making this collaboration a success. Let’s continue pushing the boundaries of innovation and knowledge transfer! 💡🌎
