Arizona Public Media (AZPM) interviewed Pierre Deymier -Podcast-
Pierre recently participated in an AZPM podcast in which he was interviewed by Leslie Tolbert, Ph.D., Regents Professor in the U of A's Department of Neuroscience. During the interview, Pierre discussed how phononic crystals have extraordinary properties in terms of the propagation of acoustic waves and acoustic metamaterials. These materials exhibit unusual sound properties but exploit acoustic resonances. For the past 30 years, several researchers have focused on this, but the acoustic media has not yet been fully exploited. These attributes are related to the Geometric Phase or the Geometry of Sound, and how the sound distributes itself within specific materials.
