Congratulations to Melody Kosters — 2024 W.L. Gore Scholar!
NewFoS is thrilled to celebrate Melody Kosters, who has been selected as this year’s W.L. Gore Scholar for the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Arizona!
Melody is a junior majoring in Biomedical Engineering, with minors in Materials Science & Engineering and Mathematics. She is an active campus leader, contributing to the Society of Women Engineers, Biomedical Engineering Society, Engineering Ambassadors, and Theta Tau Professional Co-Ed Engineering and Computer Science Fraternity — all while serving as a Resident Assistant with Housing and Residential Life.
At NewFoS, Melody plays a key role in the 2023–2024 Possibility-Driven Seed Project: Topological Biological Signals, led by Dr. Minkyu Kim (University of Arizona) and Dr. Xiaoyun Ding (University of Colorado Boulder). The project investigates how sound irradiation affects intercellular Ca²⁺ signaling in endothelial cell tissues — a fundamental communication system in biology — with important implications for understanding both therapeutic applications and potential health risks of sound exposure.
We’re incredibly proud of Melody’s achievements and excited to see all she will accomplish in her academic and research journey! 💡🔬✨
