A Year of Peer-Led Impact at NewFoS
Over the past year, NewFoS successfully hosted nine Peer Symposiums that brought together graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from its eight partner institutions, strengthening collaboration and professional growth across its research network.
By the numbers:
- 9 symposiums held
- 176 total participants (in-person and hybrid)
- 37 presentations delivered
- 34 by NewFoS members
- 3 invited external speakers
Designed as student-centered space, the symposiums provided structured opportunities for mentorship, skill-building, and interdisciplinary exchange. Sessions covered key professional development topics including scientific communication, CV preparation, networking strategies, research dissemination, lightning talks, and peer feedback.
Beyond formal presentations, the series cultivated a strong sense of community and confidence laying the groundwork for future peer-led initiatives and collaborative research in topological acoustics and related fields.
