Hao Zhang
Hao Zhang distinguished statistician with a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where her doctoral research focused on Nonparametric Variable Selection and Model Building via Likelihood Basis Pursuit. She earned her B.S. in Mathematics from Peking University in Beijing, China.She has held academic appointments at North Carolina State University from 2002 to 2011, where she advanced her expertise in both teaching and research.
Her outstanding contributions to the field of statistics have been recognized with numerous prestigious honors. In 2024, she received the Woman of Impact Award from the University of Arizona. She is a Fellow of both the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) and the American Statistical Association (ASA), as well as an elected member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI). She has been recognized as a Galileo Circle Fellow by the University of Arizona College of Science and was selected as a Medallion Lecturer for the IMS in 2017.
In addition to her scholarly achievements, she has played a leading role in advancing statistical publishing worldwide. She was appointed Editor-in-Chief of STAT, the journal of the International Statistical Institute, in 2017, with her appointment renewed in 2020. She is also a Fellow member of the Mu Sigma Rho Chapter at the University of Arizona, reflecting her commitment to both the advancement of statistics and the mentorship of future generations in the discipline.
